Mohamed Salah's high profile transfer from AS Roma to Liverpool, following an incredible season in the Serie A, is the signing of the summer, according to Michael Owen.

The ex-Reds striker is impressed with his old side's business and in an interview with the Mirror, he also spoke about Liverpool target Naby Keïta.

Owen points towards Salah's development in Italy as important after the Egyptian failed to make an impression during his first spell in the Premier League with Chelsea.

"I think Salah is a really good signing, he didn't quite nail it at Chelsea, but he was young at the time," told Owen. "He's gone away, he had a good time at Roma, he's got outstanding pace and if you're an attacking player with loads of pace then you're valuable.

"I think Liverpool are now looking like a team with a real potent attack.

"They needed to bolster the squad for Champions League football, a higher standard of games, so I think it's important that they did that."

The former England striker also spoke of Liverpool's pursuit of RB Leipzig star Naby Keïta. The Guinean international has reportedly been the subject of a £66m offer from the Reds in the hope Keïta could force through a transfer away from the Bundesliga.

"They are on the cusp of signing [Naby] Keïta, and that could be an amazing signing if that came off."

Liverpool fans should have high hopes heading into the new season. A strike force that includes Salah, Sadio Mané and Philippe Coutinho will be enough to strike fear into any defence they face during their Premier League and Champions League journeys next season.
