Liverpool's Andre Wisdom is set to finally leave Anfield as Derby County move ever closer to signing the centre-back on a permanent deal.

The powerful defender failed to break into the first team for the Merseyside club, after signing from Bradford City as a youth player in 2008. Since making his first-team debut back in 2012, Wisdom has been loaned out to four different clubs.

According to reports from the Derby Telegraph, Wisdom will join the East-Midlands side this weekend for a fee of around £2m, which could increase to a potential £4.5m depending on clauses.

When grilled on the potential deal, club manager Gary Rowett claimed: "He has still got one outstanding thing on his medical that still hasn't been cleared up yet, so we just need to make sure that all gets passed off.

"You are talking about, in the Championship, big sums of money involved and the players are amazing assets for the clubs. So we just have to make sure all the boxes have been ticked.

"Hopefully, in Andre's case it is just a technicality. He came in yesterday [Wednesday] and did the fitness tests and so we are hoping it all gets done before Sunday but the main thing is it gets done and everybody is happy".

Wisdom was given chances to shine by Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool and after scoring on his European debut in a Europa League group match against Swiss side Young Boys. Wisdom was once predicted to be an English talent for the future, and represented the Under-21 side on ten occasions.

Wisdom will hope that signing for the Rams will revive the career, having only played 13 times further for the Reds since his 2012 debut.

Now 24-years-old, the Yorkshire-born player will be eager to extend his reputation beyond that of a former youth prodigy, and a full-time move to Derby could prove the ideal setting to stabilise and move his footballing career forward.
