Former Liverpool full-back, Steve Nicol has claimed that Liverpool's new signing, Mohamed Salah is a better proposition than Manchester United target Ivan Perisic.

The two attacking midfielders who both featured in the Serie A last season are bound to draw comparisons as is the rivalry between the Red half of Liverpool and Manchester.

However, despite Perisic not even being an official United player - linked with £44m move - the debates have seemingly already started and Nicol has revealed that he would choose the Reds' new signing over the Inter star every day of the week.

"Salah. He gives you goals," Nicol said on ESPN FC (via Express), when asked which player he would prefer.

"Perisic doesn't give you goals. Salah gives you goals.

"The game is about putting the ball in the back of the net so I'm going to go for the guy who puts the ball in the back of the net 10 times out of 10."

The Reds newest addition has a clear edge over the Inter attacker on the score-sheet as Salah netted 29 league goals for Roma in 65 appearances, whilst Perisic scored 18 goals in 70 Serie A matches.

Nicol's colleague and former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson agreed with his claims as he admitted he finds it hard to see how Perisic would fit into Jose Mourinho's stating eleven.

Robson said: "I think he fits the bill better at Liverpool than Perisic does at Manchester United.

"I'm not sure where Perisic will fit in. I certainly see Salah doing a good job for Liverpool."
