Sky Sports reporter Fabrizio Romano has claimed Inter Milan have reached an agreement with Matias Vecino, but are set to hold further discussions with Fiorentina to lower the transfer fee.

The 25-year-old midfielder is said to have a €24m release clause in his contract, and impressed the Nerazzurri's new boss Luciano Spalletti last season after scoring three goals and providing four assists in the Serie A.

Romano reported on his Twitter account that personal terms have been agreed between Inter and Vecino for a four-year deal, but the Italian giants are hoping to negotiate further with Fiorentina over the transfer fee.

Previous reports suggested Inter were set to activate the 25-year-old's release clause - which is valid until August 10 - in the form of two split payments across the year.

Fiorentino were said to have made a last-ditch attempt to persuade Vecino to stay at the club by offering him a bumper new deal, however the midfielder rejected it in favour of a move to the San Siro.

The Uruguayan has been an ever present figure for Fiorentina over the past two seasons following loan spells with Cagliari and Empoli after his arrival at the club in 2013.

With personal terms all but agreed it will now be down to Inter to negotiate a final deal with Fiorentina which all parties will hope to benefit from.
