Newcastle United have agreed a fee of around £12.5m with Norwich for Jacob Murphy, according to reports.

The 22-year-old Wembley-born winger has been a target for Rafa Benitez's side for several weeks, and it seems Newcastle have finally got their man.

Murphy made 37 appearances last season in the Championship for the Canaries, scoring eight times, while he garnered further attention with his eye-catching displays during the 2017 European Under-21 Championships this summer in Poland.

He scored what would prove to be the goal which sent England through to the semi-finals - where they would eventually lose to Germany after a penalty shoot-out. However, he was still recognised as one of the standout performers in the tournament.

The 22-year-old has had six previous loan spells at League 2, League 1 and Championship clubs, however is now set to make the permanent jump to the Premier League with Newcastle United.

Murphy is contracted to Norwich until the summer of 2021 after he signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal with the club in November, however with a desire to play Premier League football, the Magpies are set to offer the Englishman his chance to do so.

Newcastle themselves have already signed Christian Atsu from Chelsea for around £6m after a successful loan spell with the Toon last season, and have also signed Florian Lejeune from Eibar for around £9m so far this transfer window.

They now look set to add Jacob Murphy to the list as Rafa Benitez looks to strengthen his squad heading into their highly anticipated first season back in the Premier League.
