Bordeaux striker and Uruguay international Diego Rolan is closing in on a £5m move to Fulham, but the 24-year-old could be stalling on a move to the Championship to see if a bid from the Premier League or La Liga comes to fruition.

Sky Sports claims the west London club are finalising the details of a transfer for the forward who has bagged 37 goals in 100 appearances for Ligue 1 side Bordeaux. However, Rolan is still waiting to see whether the likes of Newcastle make an offer for his services before agreeing to sign at Craven Cottage.

The Lilywhites are also considering the capture of Norwich target man Cameron Jerome as an alternative to Rolan, who has featured 23 times for his country.

The experience of the Canaries striker, who notched 16 goals in the Championship last season as Norwich narrowly avoided the play off, could be useful. However, the international pedigree and his prolific nature in France makes Rolan the number one target.

Rolan will wait on any offers from La Liga or the Premier League as he seeks a higher level of football. Sources in the north east suggest Newcastle could be tempted to snatch the striker from the grasps of Fulham, with the Uruguay star rumoured to be willing to wait until the final stages of the transfer window to get the best offer.

He has flirted with a move to Craven Cottage, visiting the ground twice as he contemplates life in the Championship. The £5m offered by Fulham has allegedly been accepted, now it's just a case of patience and hope from the Cottagers that no other bids come in for their main target.
