Newcastle forward Aleksandar Mitrovic is adamant he is happy at the club, as the club gear up for a return to the Premier League. However, this will not stop rumours of a move going away with Ligue 1 side Lyon a potential suitor.

According to reports from various sources, the French club have made enquiries about the Serbian international and have been quoted as high as £16m for the erratic striker. Speaking to the Chronicle, he insists for now his future lies in the north east of England and the Premier League.

“I am happy here," admitted the 22-year-old forward. "We will see what has happened by the end of the transfer window but at the moment I am here and I will do everything to work hard like I always do.”

Turkish giants Besiktas and Fenerbahçe have also made enquiries about the availability of the striker, but with only three options at the promoted side including Dwight Gayle, Ayoze Pérez and himself, for now he remains a Premier League player.

At St James' Park, he remains a cult figure, with his determination and hard-work adored by the faithful Geordie fans who consistently sell out the 52,000 seater. While at the club, although his future is still up in the air, Mitrovic promised to do all he can to do all he can for the fans who chant his name.

“What I’d say is I don’t know what is going to happen at the end," added Mitrovic. "While I am here I will give everything like I always have.Sometimes that’s enough, sometimes it’s not. I hope the fans stay with us and we need them now back in the Premier League.”
