Fulham Win 3 Club Chase to Land Talented Liverpool Starlet on Season-Long Loan

Sheyi Ojo is on the verge of completing a season-long loan move from Liverpool to Championship side Fulham.

The Times' northern football reporter Paul Joyce tweeted the news on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday as the young winger nears a switch to the Championship side.

Fulham have seen off competition from Derby County and Middlesbrough to nab Ojo temporarily, and the transfer will likely be completed in the next 24 hours after the Cottagers and Reds reached an agreement over the terms of the deal.

Ojo is in need to first-team football to aid his development, and will benefit hugely from the move down to Craven Cottage.

The England Under-20 international featured just twice for Jurgen Klopp's senior side last term after making 11 first-team appearances the season before, though he did spent time out on loan with Wolves in 2016/17.

The chances of Ojo featuring prominently for Liverpool in 2017/18 were reduced with the summer acquisition of Mohamed Salah from Roma for around £40m.

Reds boss Klopp now wants his young protege to prove his worth with Fulham before returning to Anfield next summer and potentially competing for a regular place in his 18-man matchday squads.

Liverpool's fellow Premier League side Newcastle United had allegedly been interested in landing Ojo - either on loan or permanently - earlier in the off season but the Reds declined to let the Magpies steal him away.

Ojo will now build upon the 43 first-team outings he has accrued with Liverpool, Wolves and Wigan Athletic by pushing hard for a starting berth under Slavisa Jokanovic, and will vie with the likes of Lucas Piazon, Floyd Ayite and Sone Aluko for a place in the first choice XI.
