Turns out Xabi Alonso's talents don't just stop at being good-looking and dressing sharply - he also has a cracking sense of humour, as ex-teammate Jamie Carragher found out.

The softly-spoken former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder has emerged as somewhat of a style icon over the years, but it would appear he has been hiding some quick wit.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the pair were at a Legends of Football event to support their old Anfield teammate Steven Gerrard.

In a video, Carragher addressed the audience by introducing himself and Alonso who is sat alongside him by saying 'I'm with another legend, a Spanish legend, a passing legend. Am I a legend?', and the 35-year-old quipped 'Nah, you're just a pundit!'. Apply water to the burned area...

Carragher has developed a reputation as being fairly outspoken since becoming a pundit at Sky Sports in 2013, and has been known to get fiery alongside Gary Neville - the pair are extremely well liked for their on-screen chemistry though.

The brash star was well and truly mugged off by Alonso, and it remains to be seen whether he will spark up a war of words with football's Mr. Cool. If he has any sense though he will just take the L on this occasion, as they say on Football Twitter...
