Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka has become one of the most sought-after youngsters in Europe following impressive displays at club level with Schalke and his successful introduction to the national side.
With his current contract set to expire in the summer, Goretzka may leave the club he supported as a child - having made 127 appearances for Schalke at this moment in time. Seen as a future German captain, Europe's elite clubs have taken notice and are ready to swoop for the German in January.
Schalke may be forced into selling Goretzka in January should he not sign a new deal with the club, as letting the German leave on a free would be disastrous. Schalke's sporting director Christian Heidel is prepared to make Goretzka the highest paid player at the club to entice him into staying.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Merseyside club have taken huge interest in the German - with Jurgen Klopp keen to bring his compatriot to Anfield. Fans have reacted overwhelmingly to the news, mostly seeing Goretzka in the white and black of Germany - where he has scored six goals in 12 appearances.
Fans prospered over the potential of adding Goretzka to a midfield already packed with the young talent of Philippe Coutinho, Emre Can and the forthcoming Naby Keita. However, it could be argued that the arrival of Goretzka could be to negate the imminent loss of Emre Can - who is still yet to sign a new deal with Liverpool.
