FIFA's 2017 'The Best' Awards: Ronaldo, Martens Take Home Top Honors

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lieke Martens followed up their Best Player in Europe honors by being crowned the best in the world by FIFA.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lieke Martens followed up their Best Player in Europe honors by being crowned the best in the world by FIFA Monday in London.

Ronaldo and Martens won the top individual awards at The Best gala, with Ronaldo holding off Lionel Messi and Neymar to become a five-time FIFA World Player of the Year and Martens winning her first off the heels of leading the Netherlands to the 2017 Women's Euro title.

Carli Lloyd, the U.S. women's national team star, saw her two-year run as World Player of the Year come to an end, finishing behind Martens along with controversial finalist, Venezuela U-17 and Florida State University star Deyna Castellanos.
