Former West Ham United prodigy Nathan Mabi-Mavila has been in court, after insurance company RSA Group have alleged that the player made himself look 20-years older in a bid to land cheaper car insurance.

Mabi-Mavila was at the time driving a £30k Range Rover, and allegedly sought to gain a cheaper premium by lying about his age to the company.

As reported by The Sun, the court heard how the footballer claimed his was old enough to be his own father, while also lying about his home address to knock a further £2k off the luxury vehicle's insurance costs.

The defenders elaborate scheme was cut short, when he was pulled over by police, who discovered a large discrepancy between his forms of documentation.

In Westminster Magistrates' court, Mabi-Mavila admitted to two offences - pleading guilty to one count of driving a vehicle without third party insurance, and also to a charge of fraud. The versatile defensive player now no longer represents the Hammers, and now turns out for the rather less illustrious Maidstone United.
