The latest precocious talent making headlines in the German Bundesliga is VfB Stuttgart's Berkay Ozcan. The Turkish U21 international has already made 22 appearances for his club side and has scored three goals since his debut against FC St. Pauli in 2016. Recently, clubs from abroad are courting the highly-rated midfielder as he is establishing himself in VfB Stuttgart's matchday sides.
As reported in Turkish publication Bein Sport, Arsenal have apparently jumped ahead of their rivals and are already in negotiations with the player's agent as they have been monitoring his development over the last two seasons.
A reflection of the player's maturity is that although he is certainly flattered by the Gunners' interest, he still feels that he needs to prove himself at VfB Stuttgart first before moving on to other challenges. Nevertheless, this does not stop the speculation gathering momentum, as
Ozcan explained: “My agent and I are in talks with Arsenal,
“Arsenal have been scouting me for the past two years and send representatives to watch my games. I am not sure if now is the right time to join Arsenal, it may be a bit early for me.
“I want to prove myself here and keep developing first. Ultimately, Arsenal is the club I want to join in the future, god willing I will achieve my goal.”
Comparisons have already been made in his attacking style, elegance and technique with current Real Madrid manager and French legend Zinedine Zidane. However, this young player seems unfazed and has a real burning desire to succeed whether he is representing his club side, or his country at international level.
Be warned though Arsenal fans, Ozcan will not come cheaply after signing a new and improved contract with VfB Stuttgart, which ties him to the German club until June 2019. A considerable amount of Euros will need to be exchanged to prise his talents away from Die Roten.
