Turkish club Besiktas have confirmed their interest in Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini, after the Belgian had become the subject of transfer speculation in recent weeks.

Speaking to turkish-football.com, club official Metin Albayrak stated that the 29-year-old is on their radar, with the Black Eagles eyeing a combative central midfielder to add to their ranks with the Turkish side flying high both domestically and in European competition.

Albayrak said: “Transfer plans never end, we are always working. Fellaini is on our list, we have made efforts to sign him but not just him."

Having made the switch to Old Trafford from Everton in 2013, the player was then reunited with then-former boss David Moyes for the Red Devils.

Following the dismissal of the Scot, Fellaini remained in Manchester under new boss Louis van Gaal and now Jose Mourinho but is still the focus of transfer rumours at the club.

With 95 appearances to his name and 11 goals for United, Fellaini has yet to depart England for a fresh challenge.

Not only Besiktas but Super Lig rivals Galatasaray have been linked with moves for the Belgian international - most recently this past summer - interest which could again be followed up when the January transfer window opens.

But Fellaini is not the only player Besiktas are tracking. Albayrak states that up to 20 players are on the club's radar, having been to as many league game to watch targets live.

“He [Fellaini] is not the only player we scouted, our scouting team watched 20 games live this week.

“We are keeping tabs on several players. The club has plans for Turkey and Europe, there are negotiations. We want to make the signing for the winter transfer window or for the end of the season.”
