Barcelona have confirmed that they are appealing against the yellow cards shown to Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez during Saturday's 3-0 La Liga win over Leganes.

Pique was booked at the half hour mark, while Suarez saw his name go in the book shortly after the interval. No other Barça players were cautioned during the game.

Combined with Real Madrid's 0-0 draw against city rivals Atletico, the victory saw the Catalans extend their lead over their fierce rivals and reigning champions to 10 points.

They remain only four points ahead of Valencia, though, with Marcelino's team enjoying a very strong start to 2017/18 of their own after an impressive eighth straight league win came in the form of a 2-0 victory over Espanyol on Sunday.

Speaking after Barça's game, coach Ernesto Valverde said: "Leganes were very combative and we found it hard to get between their lines so we really value this win. Even though we know we need to improve, we are happy as it is another step forward."

The team will be back in action on Wednesday night when they meet Juventus on matchday five of the Champions League group stage.

Barça won 3-0 when the team met earlier this season, with those three points the difference in the Group D standings after four games so far. Top of the group, Valverde's team will qualify for the knockout rounds come what may if Sporting CP fail to beat Olympiacos on the same night.

La Liga action will then resume with a crunch trip to Valencia on Sunday.
