AC Milan's season looks set to go from bad to worse, as their star midfielder Suso could be set to miss the next two matches after injuring his back in Sunday's 2-1 Serie A loss away to Napoli.

The 24-year-old has been a solitary bright spark for I Rossoneri this season, as the San Siro side have slumped to seventh in the table, 16 points off unbeaten league leaders Napoli.

As reported by Calcio Mercato, Suso trained on Monday separately from his fellow teammates, in order to protect his back from further injury.

Milan face Austria Wien in the Europa League on Thursday, where the club will look to maintain their place at the top of Group D. However, Suso is likely to miss the crucial match, with the club concerned his injury could worsen.

Suso could also miss Milan's important Serie A clash against Torino next weekend - a pivotal match which could spell end of manager Vincenzo Montella's reign at the San Siro should the result not go in his side's favour.

Montella has been under increasing pressure this season, as the club have failed to turn their heavy investments into successes on the pitch.

Milan's summer spending spree sent shockwaves around European football, as the club invested over £175m in new talents.

The £37m signing of Juventus and Italy star Leonardo Bonucci was particularly impressive, but the formerly rock-solid defender has struggled to replicate his impressive form in the San Siro since making the big move to Milan.
