Mikel Merino will make a first-team return for Newcastle as they welcome Watford to St James's Park this weekend.

There were fears that the midfielder would be sidelined until January, however, manager Rafa Benitez has revealed that Merino will be fit to play in their fixture with Watford.

The Spaniard has been a pivotal part of Newcastle's success this season but in his absence, the Magpies have lost all three of their Premier League games.

The 21-year old made his last league appearance against Crystal Palace where he scored a late winner to seal all three points for his side and with him back in the side for the Watford clash, Newcastle could potentially snap their three-game losing streak.

When speaking to the Chronicle, Benitez revealed: "Merino has been training. He’s available and in the squad."

The revelation from Benitez will give Newcastle fans a much-needed boost going into their game with Watford this weekend.
