He played 247 games over a 10 year spell with Liverpool and Brazilian cult hero Lucas Leiva showed last night that he clearly still has emotional ties to his old club.

Now playing for Lazio, Leiva won the League Cup with Liverpool in 2012, and it appears he still keeps up with the competition after a tweet he sent last night.

As reported by Liverpool Echo, Leiva took great delight in watching Bristol City's shock win over Liverpool's bitter rivals Manchester United, and tweeted after the match saying: "Get in Bristol City. Unluckyyyyyyy"

The tweet was predictably well-received on Merseyside, one fan urging Liverpool to "Give this man a statue" and others describing him as a "Hero".

Man Utd fans were unsurprisingly less impressed, many reminding the Brazilian about his lack of Premier League medals.

It seems you can take the player out of Liverpool, but you can't take Liverpool out of the player.
