Paul Pogba reportedly told his Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho that his tactics are restricting the team's movement and making his own performances poorer as a result.

This latest exchange apparently came in the dressing room after Saturday's match at Southampton, when United came back from a 2-0 deficit to level the scores by half time, but couldn't find a winner in the second half.

The Times reports that Mourinho told Pogba he was disrespecting the shirt by playing so poorly and giving the ball away so often.

Pogba is understood to have responded by complaining that Mourinho's tactics restrict the movement of the players in front of him, meaning that he often has nobody to pass to and is forced to attempt risky passes which rarely come off.

It is not thought that this was a heated exchange, with the Frenchman delivering his riposte calmly and without raising his voice.

Mourinho reportedly tore into his players with a 'foul-mouthed rant' at the team hotel prior to Saturday's match, before labelling Pogba 'a virus' after the game.

The United boss also castigated other members of his squad and he did not fly back to Manchester with them, instead taking a car to his family home in London.

Mourinho has since claimed that it would be 'almost a miracle' if United finish in the top four this season after a woeful start in which they have won just six out of 14 matches so far.

The Red Devils are eight points adrift of the Champions League places and that margin could extend to double figures if they fail to beat Arsenal at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
