Pep Guardiola is confident that Leroy Sane will become the latest Manchester City player to commit his future to the club by signing a contract extension at the Etihad Stadium.

Sane has recovered from a difficult start to the season to rediscover the form which won him the PFA Young Player of the Year award last season, with five goals and five assists to his name in the Premier League so far.

Raheem SterlingKevin De Bruyne, Ederson and Sergio Aguero have all signed new contracts since the end of last season and Guardiola is hopeful that Sane will be the next.

"I don't have any info about there being trouble with Leroy, the last info I had was that it [the contract talks] is going well but the process is not one day – Raheem Sterling [and his new deal], it was not one day," said the City manager, quoted by the Telegraph.

"Except Kevin De Bruyne, it was in one or two days done, the other ones sometimes take longer but hopefully he can stay here for many, many years."

Sane's attitude was called into question at the start of the season, with Guardiola dropping the German from his squad to face Newcastle, and Sane's international teammate Toni Kroos criticising his body language.

But with six goals in his past nine games for club and country, Sane is back on track now, and Guardiola believes that becoming a father has helped him.

"I'm pretty sure becoming a father helps in many senses," Guardiola said. “I think he played incredible last season. But I don't like to say too many times to the players how good they are in this moment because the season is too long."

City sit at the top of the league ahead of their trip to face Watford on Tuesday.
