Inter are planning an overhaul of their midfield options next summer, and have identified in-form Tottenham star Moussa Sissoko as one of their main targets.

Despite Sissoko performing well for Spurs at the moment, there are claims that they will consider selling him next summer in order to free up funds for a new signing.

Ajax's Donny van der Beek, Valencia's Carlos Soler and Paris Saint-Germain's Adrien Rabiot have all been mentioned as possible targets, although Rabiot's representatives previously claimed that Tottenham was not a big enough club for the Frenchman.

Calciomercato claims that Inter want to sign Sissoko as a midfield partner for Nicolo Barella, the Cagliari starlet whom Luciano Spalletti is also keen to bring to the San Siro.

Sissoko joined Tottenham from Newcastle in 2016 but struggled to settle during his first two seasons at the club and became something of a scapegoat among supporters for his poor performances.

However, he has transformed his fortunes dramatically this season, becoming a favourite not just with Mauricio Pochettino but with the previously sceptical fanbase as well.

His importance to the midfield has become even more pronounced since Mousa Dembele's injury in November, and with Dembele having now left for China, Sissoko appears to have nailed down his place in Pochettino's starting XI.

The only factor which could convince Pochettino to sell Sissoko is his age. He will turn 30 at the start of next season so a younger option like Van der Beek or Soler may be a preferable long-term alternative.

Earlier this week, reports from Italy claimed that Sissoko may be used as makeweight in a deal to bring Ivan Perisic to Tottenham.
