Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has been listed as number one target for the Italian national side's job with the role currently vacant.
His job at Chelsea has been under severe scrutiny since a poor start to 2018 for Chelsea, and now Italian federation vice commissioner Alessandro Costacurta has admitted that their Antonio Conte is the preferred choice to take up the role.
Speaking to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, reported by the Telegraph, he believed Conte could do the best in the role and will be chasing him up in the next few months: "I haven't chosen yet but I think Conte is the one who could do the best. I'll definitely talk with him in a couple of months.
"(Conte) has already shown he knows how to be national team coach while the others haven't yet."
The Italian left the national side after the 2016 European Championships and joined Chelsea as a result, which led to instant success, as they reached the FA Cup final and won the Premier League.
Costacurta didn't rule out other targets though: "That doesn't mean I wouldn't be happy with Mancini or with Ancelotti - although (Ancelotti) seems to have removed himself from consideration."
For Chelsea's sake if he remains with the club beyond the summer, they opt to go with another target and Conte stays at the Bridge. He has instilled passion at Stamford Bridge, and many would be disappointed to see the Italian leave.
