Chelsea injury news vs Crystal Palace: N'Golo Kante returns to side but Ross Barkley misses out
Chelsea have been extremely unfortunate with the constant injuries throughout the squad, but boss Frank Lampard is starting to see numbers in the side increase as many return to the side.
Lampard confirmed that N’Golo Kante and Mason Mount are both in the squad to face the Eagles. Mount was a doubt after he was taken off against Ajax during the week after he suffered an ankle problem. The Chelsea head coach revealed they would make a late call on the 20-year-old’s fitness to assess whether he would play any part on Saturday.
Meanwhile, N’Golo Kante is set to come back into the side following time out with injury, and will take over from the ever-present Jorginho after the Italian picked up an accumulation of bookings which sees him suspended for Saturday’s game. Ross Barkley will also be unavailable at the weekend through injury.
"Ross has got an ongoing issue so he is not in the squad tomorrow,” Lampard said. “So it is a conversation I will have with Gareth and Steve on him [for England]. With Mason, he is in the squad. We will give him another 24 hours.”
Antonio Rudiger and Ruben Loftus-Cheek both continue to be out, with Rudiger unavailable for the next three weeks, however Loftus-Cheek is yet to have a return date.
On Antonio Rudiger, Lampard revealed: “He had an operation, he is out for three weeks and then we will see about his match fitness. Hopefully in three weeks’ time we will know more. You do well to cope without big players.”
But for Loftus-Cheek, it remains unclear when he will return to the Chelsea side following his Achilles injury last season.
“It is a long road, it is going to be a while. I feel for him, he might say next week or month, but it might not be the case,” Lampard added.
Chelsea haven’t had it easy this season with injuries, but N’Golo Kante returning to the Chelsea team will give Frank Lampard’s men a much needed boost as they look to make it six wins in a row in the Premier League against Crystal Palace.
