Chelsea injury news vs Newcastle United: Frank Lampard confirms absentees

It hasn't been a positive break for Chelsea in the international break after several players picked up knocks, but Frank Lampard has confirmed the team news on Friday.

Speaking to the media at Cobham on Friday, Lampard confirmed the absentees in his squad for Saturday's game against Newcastle United.

"N’Golo is not fit. A small groin issue with France, he isn’t fit for Saturday," Lampard said in his pre-match press conference.

"Andreas has a hamstring problem which is going to see him out for two weeks.

"Rudiger is outside training, a bit of work to be done for match fitness. But a positive that he is outside."

However, the Chelsea head coach did have some positive news after he declared two of his midfielders are in contention to play tomorrow.

"Kovacic had a knock on his thigh, but in contention. Ross is fine," Lampard added.

Mateo Kovacic was spotted in training this week after the Blues had hoped he would be fit enough after his knock that he picked up for Croatia in the international break against Wales.

Emerson Palmieri will also miss Saturday's fixture, as the 25-year-old left-back is expected to return to the squad of Wednesday's Champions League tie in Amsterdam against AFC Ajax.

Reece James is also in contention for the Blues after his precautional withdrawal from the England under-21s side.

Chelsea will be looking to secure three consecutive wins in the Premier League for the first time this term after wins against Brighton and Hove Albion and Southampton in their two previous encounters.
