Deadline day madness expected at Chelsea

If you think back to the glory days of the transfer deadline day on Sky Sports, you will fondly remember the helicopters flying players in for medicals, Harry Redknapp hanging out of his car window talking about how he wants to sign a 'triffic player', and giant inflatable penis's on the Sky cameras. Who can forget that?

However, recent deadline days have not quite lived up to this excitement. Chelsea, may well be looking to change that this year, as many deals could definitely go down to the wire. I very much doubt we will see a 10.59pm announcement, but I do believe that one or two players could be announced fairly late on deadline day, with negotiations looking to spill out until the last few hours.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is looking like a real possibility for Chelsea now, some reports are even suggesting that he is about to reject a big money offer from Arsenal, and chose the Premier League champions. This though, is a deal I believe will be done sooner rather than later.

Danny Drinkwater is also a player who's club is locked in negotiations with Chelsea. Leicester are holding out for close to £40m, whereas Chelsea have not offered over £30m yet - this could go to deadline day.

Another one is the striker issue. Michy Batshuayi reportedly wants to stay and fight for his place. However, I'm not sure Chelsea are filled with confidence over his ability and are apparently trying to bring in Jamie Vardy from Leicester.

The only way I can see that deal happening is if Batshuayi went in the other direction on loan.

Another player I can see being a deadline day signing is Fernando Llorente, but only if his price is right. Antonio Conte has always admired the Spaniard, but Chelsea will surely only pay up to around £15-£20m for him. But they may need strikers, especially if Batshuayi and Loic Remy do leave, the latter linked with Cagliari today.

Then of course there are the issues of wing backs. Alex Sandro is still a name on the lips of most reporters, Chelsea are likely to still pursue until the final day.

But more realistically it will be a Cedric Soares or Ryan Bertrand from Southampton who could be scrambled around last minute in an attempt to bring in, possibly another deadline day deal.

Virgil van Dijk is also still in the pipeline, with reports stating that Chelsea have already had one meeting with his representatives, and are due another one this week. Southampton stand firm of course but the player is desperate to leave.

I also still believe we could see a total surprise arrival, a player who we had not even been linked with. I still believe at least 3 more will arrive.
