Emerson Palmieri's expected to return to Chelsea side against Ajax in Champions League

The full-back has missed the last two fixtures for Chelsea in the Premier League, and has been absent for three of the last four having only featured against Liverpool since the start of September.

Emerson initially picked up an injury whilst on international duty with Italy, but then further strained his injury in the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in September.

He was forced to come off after just 15 minutes at Stamford Bridge, and was ruled out for around a month - leaving Marcos Alonso as first choice on the left-hand side of defense.

But there's positive news for Chelsea, as a return date for the defender has been set, and it's just around the corner.

Simon Johnson from The Athletic reports that Emerson Palmieri is set to return for the Blues next Wednesday when Chelsea travel to Holland to face Ajax in the Champions League group stage.

It'll be as tough as it gets in the group stage for Chelsea in Amsterdam, and head coach Frank Lampard will be desperate to come away with some points to put them in a good position of qualifying.

The Blues currently sit third in Group H after a win and a loss after two gameweeks. An opening gameweek defeat at home to Valencia was put right after Willian's stunning volley secured all three points for Chelsea in France against LOSC Lille.

But for Chelsea, the focus will be all on Newcastle United as the struggling Toon Army will be looking to cause an upset at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
