Frank Lampard 'really pleased' for Chelsea and USMNT star Christian Pulisic after American came on in Blues' 1-0 win over Newcastle United
It was a tight affair at Stamford Bridge, and the Blues were made to wait until 15 minutes to go when Marcos Alonso broke the deadlock with a low driven shot, which proved one too many for Magpies keeper Martin Dubravka.
Three points have meant Chelsea have now won five games on the bounce in all competitions, and securing their second clean sheet of the Premier League season.
But talking post-match, Lampard spoke on Christian Pulisic, who he brought on, on the hour mark in West London.
A tactical change proved to help Chelsea, and on the American's cameo appearance, Lampard said: "I am really pleased for him. He is a hot topic because of his national team. Everyone has got carried away with the short-term but in the long term there is a lot more to come.
"I am delighted for him. He will feel good about that and he should do," Lampard added in good spirits after another three points.
Christian Pulisic, 21, could have had a goal but he unselfishly played it across to Tammy Abraham, who was denied by DeAndre Yedlin after he cleared it off of the line.
For Chelsea now, they switch their attentions quickly to Europe. Ajax are next in line for the Blues, and having won five on the spin, Lampard and his side will travel to Amsterdam is with great confidence.
Following Saturday's win over Newcastle United, it puts Chelsea into fourth spot for the time being, with rivals Arsenal sitting in fifth but with a game in hand.
Despite the injuries, Chelsea are coming out unscathed in games, and goals are coming from all around the pitch.
A big win for Chelsea. A huge confidence booster for Christian Pulisic following the praise from the boss. A great day all round for Frank Lampard and his side.
