Former Chelsea captain John Terry bas backed Frank Lampard to be successful in the dugout at Chelsea as his move nears closer to completion.

The pair have gone their separate ways in management, with Lampard taking the managerial route immediately whilst John Terry takes on the assistant manager role at Aston Villa.

Mel Morris, Derby owner, confirmed on Wednesday that a deal hadn't yet been completed, but John Terry believes it's the right moment for Lampard to return to West London.

Quoted by the Daily Mail, Terry said: "After the season he has had with Derby and with Chelsea's transfer ban in place, there is no-one better equipped than Frank to succeed at Chelsea. It is perfect timing for him and the club.

"I don't believe there will be any trepidation from supporters. They love him. Lamps is a legend and now is the right time for him to come home.

"Roman is a successful businessman because he is so demanding but Frank will demand nothing less from himself.

"He would welcome that responsibility to make Chelsea more competitive and provide the stability the club has probably been lacking.

"He has the tactical knowledge, enthusiasm and will have the backing of the players and fans to prove what he can do."

Despite many former Blues heading back to the Bridge in off the pitch roles, Terry has confirmed he won't be heading back just yet, as he remains focused on the season ahead with Aston Villa in the Premier League.

"I've seen the links with other jobs but I'm 100 per cent concentrated on Villa."
