TWO MINUTES ADDED ON.

----------

45'+1 Fikayo Tomori the next to be in the book. He picks up a yellow card after a foul on Almiron.

----------

HALF-TIME: Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle United

----------

Mason Mount and Willian both had great chances in the first-half. Mount denied by Dubravkla from close range, and Willian couldn't get his header on target as he found himself on the end of a Callum Hudson-Odoi cross.

But Steve Bruce will be extremely pleased with his side's first-half display. Tight, compact and a threat on the break through Almiron and Saint-Maximin.

Much to do in the second-half for Chelsea and Frank Lampard.

----------

A quiet first-half for Tammy Abraham.

----------

Mateo Kovacic already out for the second-half after being introduced late on in the first-half following Ross Barkley's early knock which forced him off.

----------

Unfortunate for Barkley having to come off, but he was a ghost in that first-half.

Read the comment piece here on the midfielder needing to have an upturn in form for his own future at Chelsea.

----------

----------

Christian Pulisic is warming up. The 21-year-old is very likely to get another chance today, albeit off of the bench.

----------

54' Chelsea turning up the pressure. Another corner, which is cleared by the Magpies.

----------

56' OFF THE BAR! SO CLOSE FROM TAMMY ABRAHAM

The forward rattles the bar from a header from the corner. Nearly 1-0.

----------

Much livelier from Chelsea in the first 10 minutes of the second-half. Looking much more of a threat in the second-half.

Excellent decision from Frank Lampard. Mount has been quiet today. Time for Pulisic to prove himself in the 25 minutes or so he has on the pitch.

----------

67' Christian Pulisic the next to go close. but Dubravka denies the Blues again. So nearly the instant impact!

----------

SUBSTITUTION: Andy Carroll comes on for Newcastle as he replaces Almiron.

----------

GOOOOOOALLLLLLLLLL! CHELSEA 1-0 NEWCASTLE UNITED

Just over 15 minutes to go and Chelsea lead. Finally have taken a chance, and Alonso is the man.

Christian Pulisic has made a fantastic impact on this side. Lampard's change has proved to be the absolute right one.

----------

----------

Another assist for Callum Hudson-Odoi! He's been Chelsea's bright spark today in the close affair against the Magpies.

----------

79' HOW HAVE CHELSEA NOT ADDED ANOTHER? Pulisic plays it to Abraham, who taps it towards goal, but Yedlin clears!

Pulisic could, and maybe should have been selfish there. That could have been the game done and dusted for Chelsea, but it remains game on. Remains 1-0, with around 10 minutes to play.

----------

SUBSTITUTION: Christian Atsu replaces Joelinton

----------

Marcos Alonso is so far the difference this afternoon with his low effort 15 minutes from time.

----------

SUBSTITUTION: Dwight Gayle comes on to replace Saint-Maximin

----------

----------

87' Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma are both up after they collided together as the Blues defended a high ball from the visitors.

----------

THREE MINUTES ADDED ON.

----------

SUBSTITUTION: Reece James is Chelsea's final change as he replaces Callum Hudson-Odoi.

----------

92' Christian Atsu runs it out of play. Should be Chelsea home and dry.

----------

FULL-TIME: Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle United

Marcos Alonso's goal, the only goal of the game, sees Chelsea win their fifth straight game in all competitions. Back-to-back home wins for the first time this season in the Premier League.

A tactical change from Frank Lampard paid off midway through the second-half. Chelsea go marching on.

Could be a good game for Pulisic and Batshuayi. Pulisic is good beating guys one v one out of the corner and his movement is too notch.

I don't think anyone was poor so to speak, but Abraham was ineffective up front. It didn't help that he was playing most of the half without Barkley who disappeared after he took a knock. Hudson-Odoi was solid on the left. Mount had his moments. Thought Jorginho was excellent throughout

That sequence of ugly play at 24', I kept thinking "someone get to the ball. This is where we need Kante." He cleans up those messes.

Jorginho to Hudson-Odoi to Mount 19'. Thought that was a goal for sure.

Almiron lacks end product, but his pace is going to cause problems against Alonso.

I know Barkley gets some stick, but these are the kind of games where I'm glad he's in the team. Much more of a goal threat than Kovacic
