Match Preview: RB Salzburg vs Chelsea

The Blues have enjoyed pre-season under new head coach Frank Lampard, with some stellar performances on display.

Meanwhile opponents and hosts Salzburg are already into their season after they beat Rapid Vienna. Fitness could be a telling story in this friendly.

Team News

Chelsea could be without N’Golo Kante again on Wednesday night. However, the Frenchman was in training on Tuesday with the rest of the squad.

Callum Hudson-Odoi, Reece James, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Willian are all still out.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to make his first appearance of pre-season.

The hosts are likely to be full strength as they will look to condition themselves for the season ahead. If Erling Håland features, then the Blues will have a real challenge defensively - an area where they have continued to struggle in pre-season.

Prediction

The season is nearing and therefore the players’ match sharpness should be building, at a fast rate too.

With some of the Blues’ squad excelling in pre-season, it’ll be again more about performances than necessarily the result on Wednesday.

Can Mason Mount and/or Ross Barkley step up again and deliver?

Prediction: RB Salzburg 2-2 Chelsea
