Match Preview: Reading v Chelsea

Matt Debono

The Blues have travelled to Ireland and Japan, but for a short while, they are back on familiar territory back in England.

It's been a successful pre-season for Frank Lampard's side so far, with promising performances from many of the squad, plus clinching silverware in Japan.

Team News

N'Golo Kante is unlikely to feature for the Blues after he returned home from Japan early to continue his rehabilitation on his knee - however the Frenchman was seen back in training with the squad on Friday.

Tammy Abraham will be looking for another start under Frank Lampard following his goal against Barcelona.

Mason Mount and Ross Barkley will be itching to start after they're fine performances in pre-season so far.

Jordan Obita is doubtful after he returned after a two-and-a-half-year spell on the sidelines for the hosts.

Matt Miazga, on loan with the Royals from Chelsea, will be hoping to start against his parent club.

Prediction

It's starting to get to crunch time, especially for the hosts as they kick-off their season next weekend, but for Frank Lampard too.

Determining who is going to get into that squad for the opening day against Manchester United will see his line-ups be almost identical in the next few games as he makes little tweaks here and there.

Prediction: Reading 1-3 Chelsea
