Real Madrid hoped for higher transfer fee for Mateo Kovacic

Chelsea and Real Madrid have reportedly come to an agreement for midfielder Mateo Kovacic, which will see the Croatian sign for Chelsea on a permanent basis.

Kovacic was brought in last summer by former boss Maurizio Sarri, but Frank Lampard is thought to want the midfielder, and has approved a move to land him permanently.

According to AS, the fee which has been agreed, £40.3 million, is lower than the Spanish side had hoped for initially and they're not entirely content with the fee.

They also claim that Florentino Perez was looking to raise more funds from the sale of Mateo Kovacic, and the fee agreed isn't sufficient enough.

It's fair to say Marina Granovskaia has proved to be a shrewd buyer, which has left Real Madrid and Perez rather frustrated.
