The search for home-grown talent

With the departures of Nathaniel Chalobah and Nathan Ake, Gary Cahill remains the only British born player in Chelsea's first team, meaning that Antonio Conte will look to bring in at least a couple domestic players to improve our home-grown quota. Various reports have suggested that the Italian manager is looking at Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Everton's Ross Barkley, after missing out on Kyle Walker from Tottenham, to fill that void.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

The Arsenal star has only one year left on his contract and has refused to sign an extension so far, with Chelsea being the most interested for the services of the 24-year-old. Known for his superb technique and fast pace, he is definitely someone who can contribute massively in the right wing-back role and at just 24 has great potential yet to be completely exploited. The one problem with "The Ox" is his defensive abilities, and is definitely something Conte would have to work on, but judging from the way he revolutionized Moses, we have nothing to worry about.

Ross Barkley

Another player we have been linked to is Everton star Ross Barkley. The Toffee's boss Ronald Koeman has already stated that Barkley will be leaving 100% this summer and the talented player definitely would contribute to any team he would join. The biggest problem concerning this transfer is that Barkley is more of a Lampard-esque player, drifting into or near the box as an opportunity arises. Conte would have to adjust the tactics and formation to accommodate a player like Barkley, but his talent and potential, under the guiding hand of Conte, could prove to be worth the risk. Another issue however is his discipline and work ethic, something he has been previously criticized for and could cause a conflict with Conte who demands total dedication and professionalism.
