Arsenal v Liverpool: Top 5 Memorable Goals

A look back at the best goals between two great rivals in Arsenal and Liverpool.
Publish date:

Liverpool travel to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday to face 9th placed Arsenal, so let's look back at some of the most memorable goals between the two sides.

Yossi Benayoun v Arsenal, 21 April 2009

Yossi Benayoun capped off an Anfield classic as The Reds claimed a point which brought them top of the Premier League in their fight for the title with Manchester United.

The headlines were dominated with Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin scoring all four of his sides goals, but Benayoun saved Liverpool by bumbling the ball across the line to make it 4-4.

It wasn't the best goal of the night, but it was massively important as a loss would've been a severe blow to Liverpool's title hopes with Sir Alex Ferguson's United having two games in hand over The Reds.

Sadio Mane v Arsenal, 14 August 2016

Liverpool's 2016/17 campaign kicked off with a bang as Jurgen Klopp's first full season in charge showed what fans should expect with the German in charge.

The opening day of the season ended in a 4-3 win for Klopp's men, but it was an emotional rollercoaster as Liverpool were 4-1 up after new signing Sadio Mane capped off his Premier League debut with Liverpool with a stunning solo screamer.

Any doubts over the £34 million fee Liverpool paid Southampton had all been squashed; the goal makes me wonder why we don't see Sadio play more on the right.

Neil Mellor v Arsenal, 28 November 2004

With the last kick of the game, Neil Mellor claimed all three points from the current Premier League champions with an outrageous strike in the dying moments of the match.

The first of two memorable commentary moments from Martin Tyler on Mellor as well, with his famous cushioned header to Gerrard against Olympiacos occurring earlier that season.

Mellor only scored six goals for Liverpool in his four year spell, but this goal was something special.

Peter Crouch v Arsenal, 31 March 2007

It was a dominating day for the home side at Anfield as Rafa Benitez's Liverpool won 4-1 comfortably against Arsenal.

English giant Peter Crouch secured a perfect hat-trick on the day, his first in his club career, with his last goal capping off a great day at the office for The Reds.

He might be tall and great in the air, but 'Crouchy' has a wonderful touch and shows it off brilliantly as he elegantly shifted the ball onto his left foot and blasted it past Gunners keeper Jens Lehmann.

Thierry Henry v Liverpool, 9 April 2004

Not a Liverpool goal, but hats off to the legend that is Thierry Henry for this wonderful goal against Liverpool back in 2004.

The Frenchman showed his world class ability as he breezed past the Liverpool defenders, as if they weren't even there, and then calmly slotted the ball past Jerzy Dudek.

Just goes to show how important it is to have a world class striker in your side.
