Nat Phillips set to be out for Newcastle Clash

Phillips is set to be out for Newcastle clash with a hamstring issue.

Nathaniel Phillips has been seen (by many) as a fitting centre-back in Liverpool's time of need. The Englishman has formed a formidable partnership with the on-loan Ozan Kabak over the past few months for Liverpool.

Having not featured against Leeds on Monday, earlier today Jurgen Klopp confirmed that “Nat Phillips is not back”.

Nathaniel Phillips battles Karim Benzema for the ball in Liverpool's Champions League match.

Being a huge blow, it is likely that we will once again see Fabinho feature along side Ozan Kabak, as he did earlier in the week. This, however, leads to the loss of his defensive prowess in the midfield, possibly causing more issues than it solves (as we’ve seen).

The alternatives then, would be either the young defender Rhys Williams, or yet-to-play January signing Ben Davies.

It may be that the Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, deems Ozan Kabak now experienced enough to partner one of these two, as he has put in a few good shifts against different sides for the Reds, but only time will tell.

On the day that Jurgen Klopp announced that Nathaniel Phillips was out for Liverpool's Premier League clash with Newcastle United, notable transfer journalist Frabrizio Romano annoucned that Ibrahima Konate would be signing for Liverpool.

The Italian journalist said that personal terms have been agreed on a five-year contract with Ibrahima Konate and Liverpool. Romano also went on to say that Konate will cost around €35 million.
