Steven Gerrard celebrates after scoring for Liverpool.

Gerrard is no stranger to individual accolades not only as a player but now as a manager, and it is difficult to shorten his list of memorable goals which led him to such achievements as a player down to five, but here they are.

5. LIVERPOOL VS MANCHESTER UNITED - LEAGUE CUP FINAL 2003

Scoring a goal against your greatest rivals is always a satisfying moment for any player, but to do it in a final is even better. It was another long ranged strike from Gerrard that gave Liverpool the lead in their League cup final game against Manchester United.

The skipper's strike took a deflection off former devil David Beckham making it impossible for United's French keeper Barthez to keep it out of his net. Liverpool would win the game 2-0 and Gerrard would lift his second League cup.

4. LIVERPOOL VS. REAL MADRID - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2008/2009

Liverpool were enjoying their best spell since winning the Champions League in 2005, making a charge for the Premier League title under Rafa Benitez in the 2008/2009 season. The Red's also delivered another memorable Champions League performance at Anfield beating Real Madrid.

Fernando Torres was a nightmare for Madrid but it was the Liverpool captain who anchored them to victory with two fabulous goals, with the second one being particularly memorable.

3. LIVERPOOL VS. AC MILAN - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL 2005

To score a goal in a Champions League final and not make the top of this list is a testament to how many important goals Steven Gerrard scored during his time at Liverpool. What is known as arguably the greatest comeback in footballing history, Liverpool were being dominated 0-3 against the Italian giants before making their miraculous comeback.

This all started with a goal from the Liverpool captain off the back of a John Arne Riise cross, and inspired the fight back that would see them go on and lift the coveted trophy for a fifth time.

2. LIVERPOOL VS. WEST HAM - FA CUP FINAL 2006

Liverpool and their captain were involved in another historic final just one year after defeating AC Milan in Istanbul. This was the Steven Gerrard final. After coming back from being two goals down, the Reds skipper produced an absolute thunderbolt of a strike in the final minutes of the game putting Liverpool level and taking the game to extra time.

Liverpool went on to win the game on penalties earning Gerrard his eight trophy with the club.

1. LIVERPOOL VS. OLYMPIACOS - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP STAGE 2004/05

Although Gerrard's goal against AC Milan in the final that season led to a memorable comeback, it was his goal in a group stage game against the Greek champions that started Liverpool on a path which would lead to European glory. Anything less than a win by two goals in this game meant Liverpool would bow out of the competition at the early stages.

But the Merseyside icon who only recently returned from injury,  delivered one of his trademark strikes to get Liverpool the win they needed. The famous words of "oh...you beauty!!" by Andy Grey on commentary will never be forgotten nor will this goal.

It is only appropriate to see Steven Gerrard be awarded with a place in the Premier League Hall of Fame, not only for the silverware he amassed and the goals he scored, but his impact as a player on the team-mates around him. Few players in football or sport in general can have the same impact the Liverpool legend had on the game.
