We all know the horrible story of Virgil van Dijk's injury in the merseyside derby last season so let's not repeat it but it's been a long road to recovery for the Dutchman.
Liverpool fans were hoping that Virgil would be ready for pre-season but we failed to see him for the first three games of the Austrian tour.
However, in his post game comments for the Hertha Berlin game, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Virgil and his centre-back counterpart, Joe Gomez could play 20 minutes.
Both of them did come on for the final 25 minutes against the German side. It was a great occasion and it made a lot of Liverpool fans extremely happy.
Despite not having this best game, Liverpool fans won't care one bit because a tiny mistake in a meaningless game means a lot less that seeing Big Virg playing in Liverpool Red on a football pitch.
After the game, the Dutchman reflected on his journey to become fit again and thanked a host of people who helped him on that road.
"285 days ago, I started on a journey back towards playing. It’s hard to express how I am feeling, but it’s important to me that I say I feel blessed to have had the support of so many incredible people." said Virgil.
"The surgeon, my physios, coaches and staff who have been with me in my corner since day one. My teammates for giving me energy and keeping my head up. The fans for their love, support and encouragement.
"And most of all, my family because without them, I’d be nothing. Thank you. The work doesn’t stop now. It’s only just starting. We keep going!"
A great message to all involved in his recovery. Hopefully he can stay fit and help Liverpool regian the Premier League title next season!
