After Liverpool's top four rivals all took maximum points on the first Saturday after the international break, the pressure was on the Reds to keep pace as they travelled to Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.
Before the game, Jurgen Klopp expressed how difficult the task was likely to be for his players against the energetic, high intensity Leeds team being moulded by Marcelo Bielsa.
It was however not the stern test the men from Anfield may have been expecting though as they brushed aside Leeds to win 3-0. Had Liverpool not been as wasteful as they were in front of goal, they could have run out far more convincing winners.
The one big downside from the match was what looked like a nasty ankle injury sustained by Harvey Elliott after a challenge from Pascal Struijk in the 60th minute. Everyone will be waiting for the diagnosis and hope he can make a full and quick recovery.
The goals themselves came from Mohamed Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mane and we take a look at how they helped to secure the three points.
Leeds United 0-1 Liverpool
Mohamed Salah - 20th Minute
The Egyptian King's 100th Premier League goal was the end result of a fine move down the Liverpool right.
The impressive Joel Matip stepped out of defence before exchanging passes with Salah. The central defender then slid the ball into Trent Alexander-Arnold's path on the wing.
The England international fired in a pinpoint low cross that Salah slotted home from close range to give Liverpool a deserved 1-0 lead.
There was a brief moment of concern as VAR reviewed a possible offside and whether Mane was interfering with play but it didnt take long for the goal to be awarded.
The Liverpool forward is the fifth fastest player to reach 100 Premier League goals and he has done so in just 162 appearances.
It was also his third goal in the opening four matches this season so the signs are promising that once again he will be in the mix for the golden boot.
Leeds United 0-2 Liverpool
Fabinho - 50th minute
The second goal came from Liverpool's man of the match, Fabinho.
The Brazilian was back to his best snuffing out danger and starting attacks. His reward was his first goal of the season in the 50th minute.
An Alexander-Arnold corner from the right was headed back into the danger area by Virgil Van Dijk. After initially missing the ball, it dropped kindly into the central midfielder's path and he fired home from six yards out.
Again there was a scare as VAR reviewed whether Mane, in an offside position, had blocked the view of Raphinha on the line but after an anxious few moments, the goal was given.
Leeds United 0-3 Liverpool
Sadio Mane - 92nd minute
It had been a largely frustrating afternoon for the Senegal striker who eventually found the back of the net in the 92nd minute. Mane had been a constant threat down the Liverpool left all match but had fluffed his lines in front of goal.
It was his tenth shot of the game that finally gave the team from Merseyside a third goal and again it was another well made one.
After Salah played Jordan Henderson in down the right, the skipper's precise cross found another of Liverpool's impressive performers, Thiago inside the box.
The Spanish midfielder squared the ball for Mane who swivelled on the ball and rifled a low shot into the bottom corner.
This was a job well done by Liverpool as they now switch their attentions to the Champions League but all thoughts this evening are with Harvey Elliott.
