The last few weeks were sure strange as we saw Liverpool players play football, not in the traditional Liverpool red, but with their country's badge over their hearts. Since defeating Wolves in the Molinuex on the 15th of March, Liverpool return to Premier League action for the first time as they took on 9th place Arsenal.
A win means Liverpool are two points behind 4th placed Chelsea, who succumbed to a 2-5 destruction earlier in the day, caused by 19th placed West Bromwich Albion.
Two changes were seen in the side which defeated Wolves 1-0 on home turf with vice-captain James Milner coming in for Georginio Wjinaldum and Roberto Firmino, returning from injury, replacing Diogo Jota, the previous match's goalscorer, at the heart of the attack.
After an absolutely dominating first half reaped no results, Liverpool got their reward in the second half, where the substitution of Jota turned the game about. The Portuguese got a brace and Mohamed Salah grabbed his 18th goal of the season as Liverpool saw out a well deserved 3-0 win at the Emirates.
Here are the player ratings.
ALISSON BECKER 7.5
Didn't have much to do in the first half, only having to save a header from Pepe easily. The second half was even more idle, as he cruised to a clean sheet.
TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD 8.5
Played an absolute class game, the best player on the pitch. Put out an absolute statement after being omitted from the last England squad. His cross for the opener was a pure Trent Alexander-Arnold move.
OZAN KABAK 8
Played very well and deserved the clean sheet.
NATHANIEL PHILLIPS 8
Our second centre half tonight who was an absolute wall tonight.
ANDREW ROBERTSON 7.5
Wasn't his usual self for the first few minutes but gradually grew into the game. Had a good match.
FABINHO TAVARES 8.5
He has made life for the defense so much easier since his reintroduction to the midfield.
JAMES MILNER 7.5
Didn't have a bad game, solid game actually, but missing a couple of good chances has docked off a few points.
THIAGO ALCANTARA 8
Another world class game by the Spaniard, who is finding his older self back quick in England.
SADIO MANÉ 7.5
Did everything right except his decision making. Started the game best out of all the players.
ROBERTO FIRMINO 7.5
The movement was there, the dribbling was there, but the finish lacked. Still had a good game, and almost got a beautiful assist.
MOHAMED SALAH 8.5
His 18th league game of the season was a thing of admiration. Just stunning. Could have had a hat trick as well if he was sharper.
DIOGO JOTA 9
Our man on fire left his burning trail in North London, getting a brace in 30 minutes.
