Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a crucial win against Wolves on Monday. The result now means they have won four of their last five away games and are now a step closer to securing a coveted top-four finish.
Speaking after the game, Jurgen Klopp gave his thoughts on the victory:
"It's all about the result. A big fight. If we want three dirty points, I'm fine with that.
"We had very good [offensive] moments where we should have done better. Defensively the whole game was really good."
In a nervy start to the game, both sides looked shaky defensively. Alisson was lucky to not give away a penalty early on, whilst Mané wasted a great opportunity at the other end.
"I didn't like the start, we weren't active enough."
Despite a relatively sluggish half in the final third, Liverpool took the lead just before the breakthrough former Wolves player, Diogo Jota.
"The goal we scored was beautiful. I thought the goalie would have saved it but it was in."
Liverpool thought they had doubled their lead late on but Salah was ruled offside after tireless work by substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Despite a tense finish, the Reds hung on to grab three priceless points.
"A lot of good news tonight but most important, the three points. Call it ugly, call it dirty, call it whatever you want. It’s three points.”
Liverpool now have three weeks until their next match against Arsenal. Despite winning tonight, the side needs a rest like this after a poor start to 2021.
"We want to go into the [international] break with a positive feeling and we have it."
Can the Reds make further inroads to the top four, or will all hopes be put into Champions League success?
