Liverpool advanced to the Champions League quarter finals after defeating Leipzig 2-0 and 4-0 on aggregate.

In the decisive win over Red Bull Leipzig, Jurgen Klopp played Fabinho in his natural position for the entire match.

An inspiring performance from the Brazilian resulted in Jurgen Klopp hailing Fabinho as, "the best in the world in the number six position."

"He is so important for us. It was my hope [to keep him there] for the season."

Fabinho put in a fantastic performance and was awarded the Champions League player of the match award.

The former Monaco man's presence in the midfield allowed Thiago Alcantara, Nataniel Phillips and Ozan Kabak to be more relaxed on the pitch.

As one Liverpool supporter said, "Fabinho in midfield wins you games. It really is that simple."

In his first full game in defensive midfield since the Merseyside Derby in October, Fabinho made more ball recoveries (12) and interceptions (four) than any other player in the Liverpool side.

On top of that, he made three tackles and had two clearances.

His defensive prowess allowed Thiago to be his normal self and produce a world class performance that the footballing world had become accustomed to while he was at Bayern Munich.

"I told him on the way downstairs 'so, you like the number six position more, eh?' He couldn't show it more! We all want Fab as the six.”

Liverpool travel to Molineux Stadium to play Wolverhampton on Monday 15 March.
