Liverpool v Crystal Palace: Klopp Quotes

Liverpool came out victors in yesterday's game against Crystal Palace, but what did the boss have to say about the performance?

The Reds cruised to a 3-0 win at Anfield against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon. Despite a few errors though, Patrick Viera's side didn't manage to create much the whole game.

After the match was finished, Jurgen Klopp had some thoughts on the game and he still thinks this isn't his side at their very best.

"We weren't flying today. We had to grind out a proper performance. I liked it. When you look back you have these games when it was really fun. And some was it was important. This is one of those important games.

"There were hard but fair challenges. The physicality was immense and we had to be ready. The chips in behind our full-backs gave us trouble. The longer it went they used that more and more. We had to run.

"The Wednesday/Saturday rhythm is really hard. We scored wonderful goals and used our set-pieces. It is massive in games like this."

Klopp also had this to say about yesterday's victory: "I told the boys that is one of the most hard-fought 3-0s I ever saw. We gave everything. We scored from set-pieces. Palace defended pretty well. I tell the boys, this is one of those games we need to win.

"We were not brilliant, but we were good. We came through that, made changes, some we didn't want to make - Millie at right-back worked out really well. Really good, I liked that."

Trent Alexander-Arnold pulled out of the game a few hours before kick-off and Klopp explained how they had to adapt to him not being available.

"Trent didn't feel right, I planned to start him but Millie did an incredible job. Our last line had never played together. Thiago, Fabinho and Henderson played just once together before today. We had to put a shift in. For the moment, I am really happy.

"We want to line up the best team and there are different factors. It's about rhythm or freshness. Today we decided for freshness. We planned for Trent but it's sorted.

"Last year we couldn't rotate because we were at our maximum too often. We need to make changes - up front we have different options too."

Ibrahima Konate also started his first Liverpool game today and Klopp seemed very happy with his display.

"Top performance - something you dream of and want desperately but when it is coming it is different. You want the team to watch the games and see what we do. We need to have experience from what we see. And he did really well. So much potential.

"He will get better. Today, against Benteke and Edouard and Zaha, there were situtions where it is new for him. It is step by step.

"There's a lot more to come from Konate. He's young and he will adapt to the league of course. He's in a really good way and I am really happy with the process.

"You can see he is incredibly talented. The potential is outstanding. He is used to winning challenges easy. He is young and he played a really good game. Massive. First home game for him."

And Finally, Klopp gave a very quick injury update on Thiago who went off during the game: "He [Thiago] felt the calf. I don't know right now but we hope it is not too serious."
