Liverpool v Crystal Palace: Combined XI

Who gets into a combined 11 with players from Liverpool and Crystal Palace?

Ahead of the 3pm game at Anfield between Liverpool and Crystal Palace. We chose the best team possible made from both teams. This will be based on form as well as just ability. Will there be any surprises or is it just straight forward.

Let's start with in net. Alisson Becker. Simple as that really. Any arguments? Nope? Let's move on then.

Both centre backs will have to go to Liverpool too. Virgil van Dijk gets in every single team in the world. He gets in every single combined XI. The other centre back happens to be one of the most underrated and less talked about players in the world.

Virgil van Dijk

Joel Matip has made the no.2 centre back position his own. With Joe Gomez and newly bought in Ibrahima Konate pushing Matip for the place, Matip has stepped up and delivered consistently over the last few years. Even when Van Dijk is missing, Matip continues to impress.

The full backs, again are not debatable. Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are exceptional. Palace's left back, Mitchell, has just come through the youth system and looks quite a decent player with good potential but he has a very long way to go to be anywhere near Liverpool's full backs.

Trent Alexander-Arnold Andy Robertson

Onto the midfield and no one will argue that all 3 positions continue to go to Liverpool.  McArthur has been a constant performer for Palace but he is playing at his level. Fabinho alongside Kante, is the best CDM in the world at the moment so he takes the CDM position in this team. Henderson and Thiago take the other 2 positions. Both players are world class, although Henderson doesn't get the credit he deserves. He has been the catalyst for Liverpool's recent success.

The front 3, you would think would be simple to choose. Salah, Mane, Jota. That's what everyone is thinking. Salah. Yes. No question whatsoever.  He is currently in the top 5 players in the world. He is just ridiculous.

Mohamed Salah

Jota has been amazing since joining the reds. He slots into the left hand side of this team. Zaha is a fantastic player, but only performs when he wants. He has moments of brilliance but he doesn't do it often enough for me.

Diogo Jota

Where's Mane? I hear you ask. Mane is one of my favourite ever Liverpool players and its hard for me to say this but he doesn't make this team right now, being true to myself.

He is, like Salah, one of the best in the world but in the last year or so he just hasn't matched the levels we are used to seeing from him. At the moment, he is missing at least 5 chances a game. Easy chances too. If he gets his form back then of course he gets into every team but the last place for me finally goes to a Palace player.

This was a brilliant buy from Palace this Summer. Odsonne Edouard is a bags man. Although he only played in the Scottish Premiership, he is a very good striker. He scored 2 last week against Spurs, despite coming on in the 84th minute.

Combined XI: Alisson, Trent, Matip, Van Dijk, Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago, Salah, Jota, Edouard.
