Liverpool travel across to Norwich for their EFL Cup game tonight. These two met in the opening game of the season in which Liverpool came off as 3-0 winners.
Jurgen Klopp is normally perceived to not taking this competition serious. With the lack of squad depth, Klopp does normally take this as a chance rest some of his superstars.
I expect a very mixed team for Liverpool, with a few youngsters given the opportunity to shine. The visitors however, will be looking to get a positive result for confidence, so I expect them to play quite a strong team. Maybe not full, but strong.
Despite the resting of certain players, my prediction for this game is still going to be a Liverpool win. Liverpool have a few players that will be given a chance to price a point.
Players such as Taki Minamino and Curtis Jones have been limited to chances this season so far and will be doing all they can to make an impression.
One player to watch in this match will be Kaide Gordon. The 16 year old has been exceptional through the youth team and has caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp. Gordon has so much potential, it wouldn't surprise me to start seeing him on the bench for Premier League games soon.
Liverpool will go to the wingers quite often in this game, through Gordon and possibly Origi. These two will try to cut inside at every opportunity. This will leave space for both full-backs to get forward.
Creating a problem for the Norwich centre backs as they will have to help their full-backs whilst trying to deal with three coming at them through the middle.
Norwich's game plan will be to hit Liverpool on the break. This is where Billy Gilmour becomes very important. He will be the link between the defence and attack and it will be on him to provide how quick they transition through the midfield.
If Liverpool can stop Gilmour through those transitions, I believe it will be difficult for Norwich to get into the game. With Liverpool probably playing a centre back pairing that have not played together, Norwich will fancy getting a few chances.
Norwich like to play on the ground so will try get round the back of the Liverpool defence through the middle. Pukki will play on the back of the last defender and will occasionally stray offside but it only takes one to be on-side and he's in. This reason alone is why I fancy Norwich to score at least one goal.
I think Liverpool will get a lot of success at getting at this Norwich back line. Kaide Gordon, for me could have a dream debut. I do fancy him to score and create many chances.
With Pukki up top, Norwich always have potential to score but all depends on how they quick they can counter. I predict that we will be seeing Liverpool's name in the next round draw and will continue their brilliant start to the season.
Match Prediction: Norwich 1-3 Liverpool
Scorer Prediction: Pukki, Gordon, Minamino, Tsimikas
Man of the Match: Kaide Gordon
