Liverpool took on Premier League's 20th placed Norwich City in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Liverpool are the most decorated winners in this competition, a record they share with Manchester City, the defending champions.
As expected, an almost fully changed starting 11 was named by the Liverpool manager, with only Ibrahima Konaté and Kostas Tsimikas holding onto their places from the weekend.
Kelleher and Gomez returned in defence, behind a midfield of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Curtis Jones, the last of which made his 50th appearance for Liverpool tonight.
In an unfamiliar front three, Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi, and 16-year-old debutant Kaide Gordon lead the attack. 18-year-old Conor Bradley was the second debutant of the night, deputising for another academy product, Trent Alexander-Arnold.
A couple of more youth players were named on the bench in the form of Tyler Morton and James Balagizi.
For a side with an average age of 23, Liverpool displayed a classy showing tonight, battering a Norwich team who held their own very well even after missing a penalty in the first half. The Liverpool youngsters, in particular, stood out.
Here are the player ratings!
CAOIMHIN KELLEHER 8
What a savior he has been, just like the first choice Alisson. His "rabona penalty save" snuffed out a Norwich comeback which was on the rise very slowly.
CONOR BRADLEY 7.5
He did give away a penalty, a careless tackle, but apart from that, he displayed a performance he should be very proud of. Few more games and he just might be able to challenge Neco Williams for the backup RB position.
JOE GOMEZ 8
His movement was perhaps not the best sometimes in the match, but he recovered brilliantly each time and delivered a superb double block after Kelleher saved the Norwich penalty.
IBRAHIMA KONATÉ 8
He was just so good, it is ridiculously how strong and pacey he is, with this being just his second competitive appearance for Liverpool. He was smooth and in control for 90 minutes.
KOSTAS TSIMIKAS 8.5
He and Andy Robertson are now tied on assists in 2021, despite the Greek only starting 4 games. That's how good he is. He might even start seriously challenging for his name on the starting 11, over a player like Andy Robertson.
CURTIS JONES 8
His first start this season came before a very solid game. He was mostly deployed at defensive midfield, but was frequently involved in the attack and did his part well.
ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN 7
He was just lost and clueless from the start, with just an assist as a positive contribution this game, raising his rating to a 7.
NABY KEITA 7.5
He was decent, not world class and definitely not bad. Was just an okayish game, with a few good moments.
TAKUMI MINAMINO 8.5
His first competitive appearance for Liverpool this year and he decorated it with a brace and a overall good performance. There can't be a better time for the Japanese to get his redemption.
DIVOCK ORIGI 8.5
Speaking of redemption, here is another player who might be searching for one. 2 assists and one goal in 2 appearances this season, if only he can keep this up throughout the season.
KAIDE GORDON 7.5
Just 16 years of age, and did such a good job on the right wing, and could have even gotten a debut goal.
TYLER MORTON 7.5
A fighting second half from our third debutant of the night. A very promising display from an exciting talent
ANDY ROBERTSON 7
Misplaced a few passes but got the job done at the end.
