This week’s edition of The Stolen XI is based on our next opponent, Chelsea, they have a star-studded line up but who would Liverpool steal? Let’s find out.
This is The Reds hardest matchup of their Premier League campaign so far and Thomas Tuchel’s side is seeming with talent, over the last two seasons Chelsea have spent over £300m on improving their team whilst only receiving around £120m back in sales.
This method clearly worked for them last season as they won the Champions League with an emphatic win over Manchester City.
So, From Chelsea’s team there are three players that I would want Liverpool to consider ‘stealing’ if they could.
These are: N’Golo Kante, Romelu Lukaku and Mason Mount. These three are all world class players with a lot of international experience and would all add something extra to Liverpool’s team.
Kante burst onto the scene in 2016 when Leicester astonishingly won the league after nearly being relegated the season before.
In the Leicester team Kante was a catalyst holding the team together and ensuring that veteran centre backs Wes Morgan and Robert Huth had someone protecting them.
Since his breakout season Kante has won countless honours throughout his time at Chelsea such as The 2018 World Cup and The Premier League, in that time he has also won the Premier League player of the year once.
Kante would be an amazing addition to any team and would drastically improve any midfield that he features in. He would also help Liverpool as he could replace the recently departed Georginio Wijnaldum.
Romelu Lukaku is currently on his second stint at Chelsea after leaving for Everton in the 14/15 season, he has became the most expensive player ever in overall accumulated transfer fees for one player.
During his time at Inter Milan he scored 47 goals in 72 games and became one of the worlds best strikers. On his debut for Chelsea, he even managed to score a goal.
Lukaku would solve a lot of Liverpool’s problems in the forward position as one of the things Liverpool are missing is an out and out striker to help take some of the goal scoring stress off of players such as Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota.
On top of this he would add another layer of depth to Liverpool’s squad.
Finally, Mason Mount is also a world class player who first came onto the scene when Frank Lampard loaned him when he was the manager of Derby County.
Ever since then he has been in and around the first team at Chelsea and has proven at both club and the international level that he can compete with the best players in the world.
It also shows that he can hold his own in a team with many attacking midfielders such as Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz.
Throughout Euro 2020 Mount consistently featured in England’s starting XI and showcased his talent on an international scale.
By doing this he has been touted as one of England’s up and coming superstars and has drastically increased his market value.
I feel that if Liverpool stole Mason Mount he would help the team progress together and improve the overall quality of the squad.
Despite all of this, I feel that the player Liverpool should steal is Romelu Lukaku as if Liverpool added a striker of his quality to their team, then they could be an even bigger force of nature on both the European Stage and in the Premier League.
