As the new Premier League season is just around the corner, football fans around the world can see their favourite players playing against one another once again.
The Stolen XI is a new series that is out each game week, where if Liverpool had the chance to steal an opposition player from the team they’re playing this week then who would it be? Each week the potential options will be discussed and there will be one player from each of the other teams who we’d steal.
Liverpool’s first match is against Norwich, who in recent years have been a sort of ‘yo-yo club’ between both The Championship and The Premier League.
There are however many standout players within the Norwich squad such as Todd Cantwell, Max Aarons and Teemu Pukki.
Each of these three were linked with big money moves after their relegation last year. However, all three stayed and managed to get Norwich promoted to the Premier League once again.
Out of the three named options Aarons (21) and Cantwell (23) have age on their side and still have much more time to grow as players and cement themselves as top footballers.
Last season Aarons played 45 games in The Championship and contributed to four goals altogether. Cantwell on the other hand only played 33 games due to injury which took him out of 10 games but he still managed to contribute to 12 goals which is a solid return for a winger in The Championship.
However, although Pukki is older (31) his goal scoring record is not something to be overlooked as in the last three seasons he’s scored 66 goals in 120 games for Norwich.
Although Liverpool now have many great players in every area of the pitch and some exciting youth prospects coming through the academy, their squad depth is where they historically lack in comparison to their league rivals such as Chelsea and Manchester City.
With these stats in mind, I feel that if Liverpool could steal a player from Norwich, it should be Aarons, as besides Trent Alexander-Arnold there is a a significant lack of depth in right-back.
Neco Williams isn’t quite there yet and Joe Gomez performs much better in centre-back than in the full-back role.
If Liverpool could pull this off, then they would have two of the most exciting young right-backs in world football. This is obviously all for a bit of fun but if you could ‘steal’ any player from Norwich, who would it be? Let us know!
