Watford 0-5 Liverpool: Player Ratings

Liverpool travelled to Vicarage Road for the first time since February 2020, find out how the players performed.

After two long, tedious weeks of international football, club football is back, with Liverpool taking part in the first game of Premier League football this weekend.

Taking on Claudio Ranieri's Watford at Vicarage Road, this was the first time Liverpool faced Watford after the latter's famous 3-0 victory against Klopp and Co, which ended Liverpool's then-unbeaten run in the league.

Team news featured Liverpool's acclaimed front three, with Naby Keita returning to the midfield as well.

Curtis Jones missed out due to an injury sustained during England U-21 duty.

Alisson Becker and Fabinho Tavares were sent to Madrid ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League fixture against Atletico Madrid, due to the duo not being ready to face Watford.

Thiago Alcantara remains sidelined as Trent Alexander-Arnold returned from injury, along with a second appearance of the season for Caoimhín Kelleher.

Liverpool ran riot at Vicarage Road, beating the hornets 5-0.

All five goals coming from the front three with Firmino scoring a first hattrick since December 2018.

Roberto Firmino

Mohamed Salah assisted the opener with an absolutely sublime pass, and later scored a breathtaking goal himself.

Here are the player ratings!

CAOIMHÍN KELLEHER 8

He had nothing to do in the first half. His second half was slightly more eventful, him pulling out a save from the top drawer.

He was composed on the ball, and it was evident how the outfield players trusted him. His second cleansheet in two games this season.

TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD 8.5

Almost scored and assisted today, with his defence being on point. His return from injury was close to flawless.

JOEL MATIP 8.5

The Cameroonian put in quite a shift today, after a string of average games.

His excellent defending with his centre pack partner restricted Watford to only one shot on target today.

VIRGIL VAN DIJK 8.5

He just makes defending look too easy.

One year ago on this weekend Virgil van Dijk suffered a near career-ending injury in the Merseyside Derby.

His performance today would make anyone doubt whether he was really out for 9 months or not. Just an incredible player.

ANDREW ROBERTSON 8.5

Ah, Andy, such an energetic footballer. His runs on the left wing were terrorising Watford, with good defensive work to boot.

JAMES MILNER 8

35 years of age and this man refuses to show signs of retiring any time soon.

Was very solid and even got an assist.

JORDAN HENDERSON 8

Jordan Henderson as the 6 is the way to go for Liverpool.

He was able to attack without comprising the midfield AND defense today

NABY KEITA 8

A very tidy all round game for the Guinea captain, who played his 4th game in 10 days.

SADIO MANÉ 8.5

Slowly, bit by bit, he is getting his old abilities back.

It cannot be more encouraging for Liverpool who are entering a period of torrid fixtures.

ROBERTO FIRMINO 9.5

A Roberto Firmino hattrick can brighten up anyone's day.

His first hattirck in almost three years, and all goals from open play too.

MOHAMED SALAH 9.5

What was better today, his goal or his assist?

Every game he just seems to improve, quite clearly the best player in the world at the moment.

Nobody is getting close to his levels this season, absolutely nobody.

SUBSTITUTES

KOSTAS TSIMIKAS 7.5

His 30 minute performance was more than just decent, and he picked up right where Robertson ended when the Scotsman got substituted.

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN 7.5

A very bright cameo! And quite encouraging for someone who needs to impress his gaffer.

NECO WILLIAMS N/A

He did not play enough minutes for a rating but he did well to get an assist.
