Watford v Liverpool Combined XI

Before the showdown down south, let’s have a look at what a combined team between the two sides would look like.

A quick parameter before we start, only players who are available for selection this Saturday will be considered which rules out Liverpool’s Brazilian buddies.

GK-Ben Foster

In between the sticks is YouTube sensation Ben Foster. The bike enthusiast has started the past three games which is literally the only credentials he has to be in this combined XI.

Alisson is the only goalkeeper to have played in the league for Liverpool this season so that only leaves Watford’s ‘keepers. That leaves us with Ben Foster. Not much else to say about that.

RB-Trent Alexander-Arnold

After an injury spell, Trent makes his return to action this weekend. Thus far this season, Alexander-Arnold has racked up two assists and averages 4.2 key passes per match which is the highest in the league.

TAA has impressed and deserves his place in this fictional team. Also, can anyone name Watford’s right-back without checking?

Trent Alexander-Arnold

RCB-Joel Matip

The tower has been strutting his stuff this season and has been solid as Dwayne Johnson at the back.

Matip is very good at his defensive duties but has put great effort into his attacking game with impressive dribbling that Kyrie Irving would approve of.

LCB-Virgil Van Dijk

It’s Virgil Van Dijk. The colossus would get into any combined XI with any team the world has to offer.

LB-Danny Rose

Danny Rose has played well above what is expected of him this season.

Andy Robertson has played below what is expected for him this season. It’s as simple as that really.

Danny Rose

LCM-Curtis Jones

CJ is slowly becoming one of my favourite players and his performances this season prove he deserves his place in this team.

Scouse boy Curt has got a goal and three assist in his past three starts which is more goal involvements Watford have has in the past three games.

RCM-Oghenekaro Etebo

For this position I had two options: pick Jordan Henderson or try to find a Watford midfielder who has also had an average season.

So my selection is Etebo, a Nigerian midfielder on loan from Stoke. I have learned that Etebo also goes by Peter.

Peter has a good passing success rate and a high tackle completion percentage. Good for Peter.

LW-Sadio Mané

Smiley Sadio is having himself a really good season having four goals already.

No left sided attacker from Watford can compare to Mané’s attacking powers which makes this another easy choice.

Sadio Mane AC Milan

RW-Ismaila Sarr

The man who gets linked to Liverpool every other week is making it into this combined side.

Ismaila Sarr has been a bright spark in a dull Watford side providing four goals.

Without Sarr, the Hornets would no doubt be in the relegation zone and his efforts have not gone unnoticed as the Senegalese star has been linked to Liverpool twice since writing this article.

LS-Emmanuel Dennis

Dennis is a fine football player and a good striker. When playing as a striker for Watford, Dennis got a goal and an assist in one start.

Since then, the Nigerian international has been played as a left winger and has been very poor.

Hopefully, Watford’s new manager plays Dennis in his correct position to prove I was right in this selection.

RS-Mohamed Salah

Mo Salah is the best player in the league, the world and the multiverse right now. There is no combined XI that would leave out Salah.

I could list the mass amount of impressive statistics that Mo has this season but you know all that already.

Instead, here is an interesting fact: Mo Salah’s house got robbed in 2017 and decided to give the thief money and helped him find a job. What a nice guy.
