Luis Suarez will go down as one of Liverpool's greatest strikers after his performances for a side that he nearly dragged to a Premier League title in the 2013/14 season.
We're sure we don't have to remind you how that season tragically ended, but Liverpool fans have always shown support to Luis due to his close connection to the club and the passion he showed on the pitch while playing in red.
After leaving Liverpool for £73.5million to join Barcelona, Suarez went onto become the next best thing after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for years. Many consider the Uruguayan the third best player of our generation behind the two greats previously mentioned.
After a long and successful spell at Barcelona, the Spanish club decided to cut ties with their legend striker and decided he was not good enough to start up front for them anymore and sold him to Atletico Madrid for £6.3million in September 2020.
This turned out to be another dreadful mistake by Barcelona, as Suarez was not finished being the clinical striker he has proven to be his whole career.
Suarez went on to play 32 games for Atletico in the league, scoring 21 times and getting 3 assists. Which landed him 4th in the top goal scorers, only behind Lionel Messi (30), Karim Benzema (23) and Gerard Moreno (23).
La Liga has been a very tight affair for the whole season with the leader chopping and changing for months between Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
Until the final gameweek arrived and it was between both Madrid sides. Atletico were on 83 points and Real Madrid were on 81 points. It was in Atletico's hands and they just had to win to secure the title.
They decided they didn't want to do it the easy way because in the 18th minute, their opponents Valladolid scored. Madrid's fortunes changed in the second half though as in the 57th minute, winger Angel Correa leveled the score and Atletico just needed one more goal to secure the title.
That's when in the 67th minute, the man of the moment stepped up for Atletico like he has done all season. Luis Suarez scored and Atletico won the title ahead of local rivals Real Madrid.
After the game had ended, Suarez could be seen sitting on the pitch using his phone while tears were flooding from his eyes. We assume these were tears of joy and happiness as Suarez had single handedly lead Atletico to another La Liga title.
Suarez who has wrote his name in Atletico's history forever is now a free agent this summer and after his amazing season there will be a lot of clubs sniffing around for the Uruguayans signature.
There have been some reports floating around that Suarez could return to Anfield as a free agent as Liverpool are looking to replace Divock Origi this summer with the Belgium likely to be moved on.
Surely if Suarez does return to Liverpool it will only be for one or two seasons max but it would be amazing to have him back playing in Liverpool Red with the Anfield faithful singing his classic song in the stands. We can only dream.
